Conference publicationsErythrocyte antioxidant enzymes in acupunctured patientsPushchino, Moscow Region Erythrocyte antioxidant system in acupunctured patients was studied. Malondialdehyde and catalase levels were shown to be increased in patients and returned to the control values following acupuncture. Superoxide dismutase activity was similar in controls and patients but elevated after acupuncture. Gluthatione peroxidase being lowered 2-fold originally in patients was normalized with treatment in those exhibiting normal blood pressure. Thus, acupuncture seems to stabilize lipid peroxidation and to improve antioxidant status of erythrocytes. |
