In this work we develop a mathematical model of the prey-predator dynamics in a spatially heterogeneous environment, the prototype of which is the fish community of the Syamozero lake (Karelia). The community dynamics under invasion of an intermediate predator is investigated. We demonstrate the invasion of an alien species can lead to significant modifications of the fish community dynamics. Chaotic fluctuations of the fish abundance can arise. The phenomenon of attractors coexistence is a matter of special interest. We show that the types of coexisting attractors are as follows: chaotic fish density oscillations, non-chaotic fish density oscillations, and a stationary fish density. The “choice” of the attractor depends on the initial invader density. Also, we show that the biological invasion can occur only under the absence of the competition between the juvenile invader (the intermediate predator) and the population of the non-predatory fish (prey) for the shared nutrient resource.
