The work investigates relation between histograms shape and dimension of minimal cover [1]. It is shown that dimension of minimal cover possess all the properties of histograms comparisons method [2]. It has been suggested further development of fractal dimension definition method considerably improving accuracy of local analysis of noise-like time series.

As an example of the method application some manifestations of macroscopic fluctuations phenomenon [3-4] was studied, in particular, presence near 24-hours periods in time series of alpha-decay rate fluctuations.

Also the work considers some possible applications of the developed method: local analysis of biological and medical time series, patterns shape recognition, econophysics.
