Piecewise-Polynomial Smoothing of Contour Lines

A new piecewise-polynomial method and algorithm are presented for parametric smoothing of the coordinates located on a contour line (CL), where a polynomial model of 12th order is used in the form of basic elements at three-point grids (BEM-polynomials). The algorithm provides stability with respect to measurement errors and high order smoothing within a global grid. Segmentation of CL by BEM-polynomials improves the efficiency of solutions to applied problems with respect to accuracy of estimates of the studied objects' parameters and informative features.
