CD spectra of cytochrome c oxidase are investigated using classical polarizability theory. This approach is able to explain the non-conservatism of the Soret region (400-470 nm) of CD spectra. The analysis suggests that optical activity of the enzyme in this region resulted from the interaction between the hemes and aromatic side chains of amino-acid residues.
