Social and economic analysis of social networks data

The possibility of formulating new approaches to research has appeared alongside the development of Internet and social networks (media). The fundamental problem that is being solved is application of the methodology which will put extraction and intake of a new data type on stream, this type of data being the online social and economic information which is automatically generated in the Internet. In the context of the present study the issue of interest if extraction and analysis of social networks data. In the suggested methodology the object of analysis is not the contest of user messages, but the total flow of messages in time. This study considers using commercial aggregators as an alternative source of original information. The fullness of information and extended opportunities can be considered advantages of this service. API is used for interaction with the social network “VKontakte”. Open API is a system for website developers which gives the opportunity to authorize users of social networks on the site. A database of 7000 users within the University of Dubna was created. Database parameters contain a set of quantitative and qualitative characteristics of respondents (sex, age, faculty, year of registration in the social network, town of residence, etc.). Hypotheses of relevance of this data were checked. It was demonstrated that gathering online data from social networks is a modern method of data collection. The analysis of migration dynamics of students of the Dubna University from various regions has shown that university is developed in terms of economics and attracts a large number of people from regions of Russia and countries abroad. Secondary analysis of education dynamics applying cross tables method has shown that the majority of men choose the departments of science and engineering and particularly the Institute of System Analysis and Management, while women choose department of economics and management, as well as department for social sciences and humanities
