It is known that Academician Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Andronov was a physicist by education. The lecture will attempt to explain how and why he studied mathematics, what kind of mathematics it was, and also to tell a little about the further development of this topic in the mathematical branch of the Andronov school on the theory of nonlinear oscillations.
